we have been to An Mordros before so this time we knew what to expect. The location is excellent for us to enjoy the beach with our dog. It is a well equipped cottage which is light and nicely decorated. The shower is good and the bed comfortable. The garden is secure and pleasant. The addition of the extra fridge in the shed with the freezer was a great help.

The property

What a fabulous find!

Tucked away amongst a small community of beachside homes is the An Mordros Beach House.

And beach side, it most certainly is!

Sitting in the incredible location of Gwithian Towans, which for those in know is one of the most sought after locations in south west Cornwall - you've got St Ives Bay, the beach and the sea all within a short walk.

The property, named after the Cornish for 'sound of the surf' (an mordros), is a smart, contemporary beach house that's been completely transformed into an imaginative and uber-cool space.

Whitewashed walls, open ceilings and wooden floors make the space large and welcoming the design maximises the space available for guests, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms all on one level and is perfectly presented. The smart bi-fold doors are a great way to 'bring the Outside in' which (along with the many windows) make the property very light and bright, while underfloor heating keeps the property warm and cosy all year round. Outside there is a wrap-around garden space with decking, ample seating and a barbeque too.

The owners have a great attention to detail too - there's an Outside warm shower and even a Surf Shed with surf-boards, body boards and loads of beach games for you to use.

We felt immediately relaxed when we arrived as it has a totally laid back feel with some of the best that Cornwall has to offer literally on your doorstep.

In fact you'll be so relaxed after a stay here, you may find that you really won't want to leave!

About the location

GWITHIAN TOWANS

Gwithian Towans (also known as just "Gwithian") is an outstanding beach-side location situated overlooking St Ives Bay and St Ives itself in the distance. The location, so close to the sea, makes it ideal for families, with three and a half miles of sandy beach, rock pools and caves to explore, acres of marram-grassed sand dunes (known locally as 'towans') - and some of the best surfing in the country. There's also a shop/Post Office and a pub in Gwithian itself as well as several beach cafes. The beach is popular with surfers as the swell coming in from the ocean provides good all year round surfing conditions. Common seals are a regular sight near the beach and the area is a breeding ground for colonies of seabirds such as guillemots, razorbills and cormorants. The Sunset Surf beachside café and bar overlooks the beach and is open all year, serving locally sourced, seasonal ingredients wherever possible and nearby the Jam Pot Café and Shop, a former 19th century coastguard lookout, is where you can enjoy home cooked snacks and be distracted by the stunningly natural views out over St Ives Bay. Lifeguard cover is provided from Easter until the October half-term holidays. You can walk for miles along The South West Coastal Path which passes close by and there are some good cycle routes in the area too. You really are spoilt for choice with the enormous variety of attractions on offer in this part of Cornwall. The seaside town of St Ives, with its galleries and restaurants, Land's End, Penzance and St Michael's Mount (NT), as well as the Helford River on the South coast with its inlets and creeks, are all within an easy drive.

Note: Children should be accompanied by an adult when using mezzanine levels. Note: Dogs are restricted from the main beach between 1st May - 30th September.
