You’re not going to run out of exciting things to do and places to go in Dorset, but when...
Autumn offers plenty of opportunities to get out in the great outdoors and experience the magical colours of the new season. When staying in a holiday cottage in the New Forest area, you’ll be perfectly placed for taking part in a variety of events that take advantage of the beauty of the area.
On a number of dates throughout October, Chef John Rensten will be teaching both Fungi Foray and Woodland Cookery during guided walks in the New Forest. Providing the perfect opportunity for exploring this spectacular forest, the walks will take place in a private area and will allow those interested in wild food to find their own in this superb environment. You will spend the morning collecting mushrooms before heading back to the woodland camp to prepare your finds for lunch, and may even have leftovers to take back to your Hideaways holiday cottage.
New Forest Cider will be hosting an open weekend for all those that wish to come along and see how cider was traditionally produced. With demonstrations of a variety of vintage presses, you will be able to watch the production from start to finish, with a chance to sample the cider in the farm shop at the end. Taking place on the 18th and 19th October, this exciting event will also include a traditional country craft fair and performances from the Skimmity Hitchers, not forgetting the showpiece hog roast!
If you’re visiting during half term with the children, then an enchanted experience awaits them in the New Forest: the Gruffalo Trail. Fans of bestselling children’s book The Gruffalo will be able to enter the magical world of the mouse by following the organised trail into the heart of the forest. Booklets cost just £2 and can be purchased at the Information Unit, and will be available from Saturday 25th October until November 2nd.
