New Forest Event Guide: August 2014

Nowhere makes the most of the summer months quite like the New Forest. With a packed programme of events this August, including festivals and family activities, there will be plenty to keep everyone occupied during their summer cottage holidays in the New Forest.

Gruffalo Trail
Starting things off is something for the little ones. If you enjoyed the broadcast of the Gruffalo’s Child last Christmas then you will adore the now famous Gruffalo Trail in the New Forest. Having run throughout the summer, families only have until the end of August to enjoy this wonderful summer activity before it returns later this year for the October Half Term. With trail booklets available from the Bolderwood Information Unit and a whole story to discover, it is a great way to get the kids excited about their trip to the woods!

New Forest Fairy Festival @ Burley Park
If that isn’t magical enough then be sure to visit the New Forest Fairy Festival over the 16th and 17th August at Burley Park. With plenty of fun activities to enjoy, including a fancy dress competition, belly dancing, magical horse and cart rides, palmistry talks, music, yoga and even Hula-Hooping, there is something for everyone to enjoy – not just those with a good supply of fairy dust! See the website for ticket details and come on down for two days of magical fun.

New Forest Folk Festival
Finally, seeing summer off with a bang is the New Forest Folk Festival, which is being held between the 28th and 31st August at Powells Farm. This fantastic festival attracts families and couples on English country cottage breaks from all over the country to catch some of the best performers of folk music. This year will see performances from the likes of Steeleye Span and Gary Fletcher of the Blues Band, to name just a few of the line-up. Be sure to book your tickets soon before they all sell out!
