Harley Davidsons to rumble through Dorset for charity

During the last weekend of September, hundreds of the country’s most ardent Harley Davidson riders will descend upon a Dorset seaside town in thunderous celebration.

The New Forest Harley Owners Group (HOG) will be holding their annual rally in Weymouth on 25-28 September. With a giant motorbike parade snaking its way through the roads and villages of the Jurassic Coast, the event will truly be a spectacle for participants and onlookers.

"We hope to have in excess of 300 Harley Davidson motorcycles involved in our parade,” Justin Moors, communications officer at HOG, told the Dorset Echo. “[It] always draws a crowd in the area as it is quite a sight, and sound, to behold."

On the Saturday, the procession will begin at Westfield Arts College in Weymouth. With the support of Dorset Police, the motorbikes will make their way with a rumble through the villages of Preston, Osmington, Poxwell and many more. It will end at Weymouth Pavilion, where a giant bike show will be held, with live entertainment and competitions.

Whether participating in the ride, or hoping to catch a glimpse of the impressive display of iconic American motorbikes, there are a number of unique and special holiday cottages in Dorset to stay in that will add to a memorable weekend.

For the New Forest HOG, the rally is more than just a joyride and a chance to show off their big bikes. The group is using the event to raise money for SERV and the British Association for Immediate Care (BASICS).

SERV Wessex offers a free out-of-hours transportation service for NHS Hospitals in the area throughout the year. It transports blood products and other urgent consignments, allowing hospitals to free up staff as well. The other charity, BASICS, helps to improve co-operation between all primary services in dealing with emergencies in Dorset and throughout the country.
