There’s so much going on in Wiltshire this summer, we can’t wait to get out and about and visit...
The best thing about summer is arguably the festivals. Watching live music in the sunshine, with a cold beverage in hand, is often what many of us look forward to when the season hits.
While many larger festivals now get broadcast on TV, there’s nothing quite like experiencing the real thing, and these Hampshire events are sure to give you a taste of a great British summer experience. Best of all, when staying in Hampshire cottages in 2015, festival goers can enjoy all of the fun, with the promise of a good night’s sleep.
Described as one of the friendliest festivals, the family-run New Forest Folk Festival, can be enjoyed by everyone from the age of 5 and upwards, including four-legged friends on a lead. Located in the pretty setting of the New Forest National Park, in-between Salisbury and Southampton, this small and intimate get together has an outstanding line-up of folk music, which makes for a fantastic combination.
“As well as some of the finest folk musicians in the land performing on our unique rustic stage, other attractions include our delicious home cooked food, local trade and craftsfolk, and of course real ale and cider. Artists include Home Service, 3 Daft Monkeys, Little Johnny England, Tannahill Weavers, Ric Sanders Trio, Gigspanner and The Alan Hull Songbook.” – New Forest Folk Festival
For a one-day festival, Lowde Fest certainly crams a lot of fantastic acts into 12 hours. With two stages, the festival brings the sleepy village of Hazeley Bottom alive, all in the aid of raising money for severely ill children in hospital. This year’s headliner is 80s mega star Paul Young, who will be supported by acts such as Rick Parfitt Junior, who is the son of the Status Quo rock legend of the same name, and Leddra Champman, who has just returned home from touring with Tom Jones.
“We are so excited about this year’s line-up. We had over 1000 bands and acts apply to play this year so the competition for a place on the bill was high, and only the best have got through. It’s going to be the best party ever in a field in sunny Hazeley Bottom and together we will be enjoying music for good as all the profits are turned over to charity.” – Martin Lowde, Festival Director
As the name suggests, Boomtown Fair considers itself more of a temporary city, with nine totally individual districts. Festival attendees can find the widest array of activities and things to see that any other organiser could boast. While there are hundreds of musical acts on the line-up, there is also so much more to experience, which is impossible to detail due to the sheer variety.
“BoomTown is much more than just the average music festival, it’s a global community populated by people who love good music in a place that’s all about creativity and free expression and the normal rules don’t apply! The 22 themed main stages include a 40ft tall Aztec Temple, a 90ft long Pirate Ship, a nine storey high Palace and a moving Old Mine, to name just a few of the spectacularly detailed sets.
On top of the 22 main stages, there are 102 themed and interactive mini venues; including a Leisure Centre, Job Centre and Town Hall, over 2km of winding street set, nine completely immersive districts and over 500 artists across a huge spectrum of genres, including; Stephen Marley, Flogging Molly, Gogol Bordello, John Butler Trio, Noisia, Less Than Jake, DJ EZ, Toddla T and Kate Tempest.” – Boomtown
Hosted by famous car enthusiast Chris Evans, this is a festival that will not want to be missed by fans of all things on wheels. Not only this, but there will also be magical music to listen to and fantastic food to eat, which can all be enjoyed while admiring the vast collection of cars on display at Car-Fest.
“Now entering its fourth season, the two spectacular shows are packed with even more features aimed at inspiring and amazing those of all ages. New additions include: goalfest, stunt school, the beach complete with deck chairs, a vintage village, mega land plus a lot more surprises still to be announced. The car content has been revved up, too. Track stars this year will include everything from Batmobiles and beach buggies to historic F1 racers and the very latest supercars.” – Car-Fest
