There’s so much going on in Wiltshire this summer, we can’t wait to get out and about and visit...
Summer is officially upon us, which means that there are even more events to make the most of in Dorset this month, and below we’ve picked some of the highlights. Those staying in holiday cottages in Dorset will be able to try delicious delicacies, enjoy literary tributes and take advantage of the beautiful surroundings the county has to offer.
Swanage is renowned for its picturesque bay, which is home to a wealth of restaurants, cafes and pubs, boasting menus with fresh and local produce. This includes plenty of top quality fish and seafood, which has been caught by fishermen in the surrounding area. Now, this coming weekend, the town will be celebrating ‘all things fishy’ with a variety of events, including cooking demonstrations from celebrity chef Ed Baines, foraging masterclasses and crabbing competitions, to mention a few. Throw in live music, entertainers and food and drink stalls, and this festival is one that you won’t want to miss!
Dorset was the birthplace of Thomas Hardy and was also the inspiration behind many of his most well-loved novels. In order to mark 175 years since the author’s birthday, the Thomas Hardy Society has organised a number of events, which range from wreath-laying at his grave to readings of his works. There will also be a birthday party on the Saturday, with a celebration buffet meal, music and poetry.
Now that June is here, it’s time to make the most of the great outdoors, and what better way to do this than with an open air production? Wimborne Drama Productions will be presenting Jane Austen’s classic Pride & Prejudice in the historical gardens of Dean’s Court, with performances on 25th-28th June. Guests are invited to bring along a picnic, and to sit and chill while watching this superb comedy on a summer’s evening.
