There’s so much going on in Wiltshire this summer, we can’t wait to get out and about and visit...
By renting cottages in Dorset, not only will you be perfectly placed to explore all of the county’s historical coastline and beautiful countryside, but you’ll also have a number of exciting events on your doorstep. We’ve detailed our favourites for July below.
Hosted by champagne house Pommery, the Dorset Seafood Festival on 11th-12th July is a charming affair, with an abundance of sparkling wine and fresh produce from the Weymouth coastline. This will be the eighth instalment of the event, which is getting bigger each and every year.
Highlights of the fantastic family entertainment and superb cuisine include a pop-up restaurant, live cooking demonstrations and over 100 seafood stalls. Festival goers can try oysters, enter competitions and learn how to fillet a fish like a pro, all while raising money for the Fishermen’s Mission charity.
This unusual festival is held annually in order to remember the Tolpuddle Martyrs and the campaign that freed them. For those who are unaware of the story, six men were arrested and sent to Australia in the 19th century because they had formed a trade union. Upon learning of their fate, the working class got together and put on a huge demonstration through London, delivering an 800,000-strong petition to parliament, which saw the six men returned home with free pardons.
For this year’s festival from 17th-19th July, musicians such as Billy Bragg and Seth Lakeman are invited to grace the stage at the Tolpuddle Martyr’s Museum to reflect the spirit of those who were prepared to stand up and be counted.
Fans of Doctor Who will be delighted at the news that Daleks will be invading the Tank Museum on the weekend beginning 25th July. Those attending will have the chance to meet them up close and hear their ‘Exterminate’ battle cries as they roam around the museum in an attempt to conquer the human race. There will also be a cosplay competition, with sci-fi related prizes up for grabs for the best dressed costume and traders selling retro merchandise and collectables.
