If you’re heading on your summer holidays this month, then be sure to check out the fantastic events taking place during your stay in a traditional Dorset holiday cottage. Immerse yourself in the great outdoors and experience all the county has to offer visitors in August, which includes the handful of events we’ve handpicked below.
River Cottage Summer Fair
Make the most of the countryside during your Dorset holiday cottage stay with this celebration of summer on a farm. It’s also not just any farm, it's River Cottage, which has become famous due to its association with TV chef Hugh Feranley-Whittingstall. There’s plenty to keep both adults and children entertained at the summer fair, with activities ranging from blacksmithing demos and gardening lessons to pig racing and welly wanging. There will also be live music and, of course, tons of fantastic seasonal food and drink, making this a superb weekend for the entire family.
Carnival season is upon us, so why not attend one of the best? Weymouth’s offering is held every year on the third Wednesday in August. This year will see both the Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain take to the town’s skies, which is just the start of the exciting events scheduled for the day. As per usual, the carnival queen will be crowned in the early afternoon, with the procession heading through the streets in the evening. Plus, there will also be an incredible firework display that will light up the entire bay.
Bournemouth Air Festival
The Red Arrows will be returning to Dorset once again later in the month for the four-day Bournemouth Air Festival. They will be joined by even more impressive display teams, such as the Hawk T2 Role Demo crew. There is also plenty organised on the ground and at sea, with the Royal Navy and Royal Army giving a variety of demonstrations, with a full-size mock-up of a Chinook helicopter on display at the RAF Village. There will also be live music each evening, with the line-up including acts such as Alesha Dixon, Scouting for Girls, and one half of Artful Dodger.
