The British Travel Awards 2012 were awarded last week in a glittering awards ceremony, and Cornwall has come out top in a number of prestigious categories.
Those staying in holiday cottages in Cornwall will be glad to know that they are officially staying in the “best holiday county”, and award which Cornwall has won for 4 consecutive years. The picturesque town of St Ives also won “best coastal town” for the third time, acknowledging its enduring popularity as a holiday destination.
“Best leisure attraction” was also awarded to the Eden Project, whose famous biomes beat the likes of London’s Madame Tussauds and Legoland Windsor. Cornwall did well in terms of heritage attractions; the renowned Minack Theatre won bronze.
The British Travel Awards are the largest awards programme in the UK, with accolades to be won in over 70 categories. More than 1 million people voted in the British Travel Awards, a clear sign that Cornwall is deserving of its award as the best place to enjoy a lovely holiday in the UK.
