There’s so much going on in Wiltshire this summer, we can’t wait to get out and about and visit...
England’s folk heritage is celebrated in folk festivals all across the country and Swanage in Dorset is preparing itself for its annual offering from 7th-9th September.
The seaside town comes alive each year with folk music, Morris dancers and a contagious energetic spirit. Hundreds of people come to see the festival each year and the line up for this year suggests that it will be as busy as ever.
There will be a number of free concerts going on throughout the weekend, mostly in the Main Marquee, so for those who simply fancy a taste of folk this is certainly the place to be. Lined up to perform this year are The Demon Barber Roadshow, Chris Newman and Màire Ní Chathasaigh, and BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner Lucy Ward.
The musical talent is unbelievable, and visitors can get involved too; for the third year running there will be a ukulele workshop. Ukes will be available to hire or buy at the festival so why not have a go? The Swanage Folk Festival will provide plenty to do for anyone enjoying Dorset cottage holidays, so make sure you head down to the seaside this September for a real folk experience.
