A writer from The Guardian has recently recommended the New Forest as a great place to enjoy a cycling holiday, praising the well-kept cycle tracks, beautiful countryside and array of welcoming pubs for being a thoroughly enjoyable part of his holiday in the New Forest.
From his base staying in holiday cottages in The New Forest, journalist Steve Keenan was within a short distance of some of the national park’s 100 miles of off-road cycle tracks, and, after hiring a bike and helmet, he immediately set off to discover the rest of the New Forest.
One of his favourite routes took him on the Ornamental Woods trail, a 15-mile route which is mostly flat and is 95% off-road. He recommended the route for its beautiful natural surroundings, which includes both woodland and heathland. He also suggested that cyclists try the Oak Inn near Lyndhurst for lunch, a pub which is a favourite with cyclists.
