The Boat Project to drop anchor in Weymouth

An extraordinary artistic project created as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad’s ‘Artists Taking the Lead’ initiative will be exhibited in the picturesque Dorset town of Weymouth this summer, giving visitors a chance to explore the vaunted Arts Council England-funded piece whilst enjoying a relaxing stroll along the harbour.

The result of around six months of public donations and expert construction, the Boat Project is a 30ft vessel made from an extensive and diverse variety of wooden objects and materials, including pencils, pianos and pine.

Also featuring items from famous historical ships such as HMS Victory and the Mary Rose, the floating masterpiece is currently on its way around the UK’s south coast, before it is proudly docked and displayed at its final port of call, Weymouth Harbour, between the 1st and 8th August.

The perfect reason to pay a visit to one of the county’s most popular destinations, the Boat Project will be a highlight of Weymouth’s summer calendar, and is just one of the countless attractions those planning Dorset cottage holidays this year will be able to enjoy.
