Swindon Railway Festival back for 11th year

One of Britain’s greatest triumphs has got to be the development of the steam engine and the railway system, and anyone enjoying a stay in Wiltshire cottages has the chance to really celebrate this historical gem on 15th-16th September.

Swindon Railway Festival is now in its 11th year and is one of the biggest railway shows in the country. The festival brings enough entertainment for every generation to enjoy, from some of the largest displays of model railways to meeting and greeting some of the drivers and firemen who used to work on the Great Western Railway.

The festival will be held at the STEAM Museum of the Great Western Railway from 10am-5pm on both days. There is plenty going on, including exhibitions by Hornby, an appearance from celebrity train enthusiast Pete Waterman and of course the chance to climb aboard some of the great trains, including Caerphilly Castle.

So for an exciting day that celebrates the age of the steam train, make sure to head to the museum in Swindon whilst enjoying a holiday in Wiltshire.
