New Forest event guide: June 2015

The New Forest is a wonderful place to visit at all times of the year and June is certainly no exception. With plenty of activities scheduled for this month, visitors staying in holiday cottages in the New Forest can explore the local area, discover fantastic local art and show their support for the armed forces.

Explore the local area

Take part in the walking picnic to really get a feel for The New Forest. It starts with a walk around the local area at Verely Wood near Burley that ranges from 3 to 5 miles and is led by an experienced local guide. After the walk, a homemade picnic is provided, allowing walkers time to sit and appreciate the natural beauty around them, as well as the delicious food. The walking picnics are available on Tuesday 2nd June or Tuesday 30th June and start at 11am.

Places need to be confirmed before the day, details are available here.

Discover local art

From the 13th June there will also be the opportunity to attend the St. Barbe Open Exhibition. This is the 16th year that the exhibition has run and as always will bring in the best paintings, prints and drawings from across the South East. As well as local artists, this year there will also be competitors from further afield hoping to impress the judges and be awarded first place for their creativity.

As well as being able to see the art, the Open is also a fantastic opportunity for people to buy high quality yet affordable art, as some pieces will be available to purchase.

Armed Forces Day

As part of the Armed Forces Day celebrations across the country, on the 27th June there will be live music, a funfair and various stalls at the Gang Warily Recreation Centre in Fawley from 11am to 6pm. Re-enactors will be performing battle scenes throughout the day and there are arena performances scheduled as well. A mobile bar is also available for those who might like some light refreshments.
