Booking is now open for the ever popular and original New Forest sportive – the New Forest Rattler. This huge cycling event takes you on a beautiful looping course through some of the most beautiful spots in the New Forest, passing by ancient redwood trees, wild animals grazing peacefully on the roadside, and breath-taking views across the countryside.
There are three different routes of varying distance and difficult open to cyclists. The short route is 47 miles, the standard route is 82 miles, and this year, there is a new ‘102 mile epic’ route course planned. Fully detailed route cards will be given to each rider on the day, or you can download the routes in PDF format from the official website.
The prices of entry are £25 for the easy and standard routes and £27 for the epic route and there are plenty of extras included in the price. At the finish line there is a BBQ and all along the course there are stations where you can get stocked up on energy products. On the morning of the race you’ll be treated to a hearty breakfast with tea and coffee to set you up for the day.
All of the routes have been designed to take as little distance as possible on main roads and, instead, pass through beautiful countryside. The route is relatively easy but the last 20 miles of the course are hilly with a gradient of around 25% at its highest point.
Camping is also available on the night before the race, but before a long day cycling, camping doesn’t really cut the mustard. There are many cosy cottages in the New Forest to choose from where you’ll be guaranteed a peaceful night’s sleep rather than waking up with a bad back after an uncomfortable night in a tent!
