Four restaurants to spice up a Wiltshire holiday

Dinner in one of our Wiltshire cottages may well be the perfect setting for a romantic meal or dinner with friends, but sometimes a meal out at a high quality restaurant can be just the ticket after spending a day enjoying the sights and sounds of Wiltshire. We’ve picked out some of the best restaurants in Wiltshire to get those taste buds tingling during your next cottage holiday in the county.

1. The Harrow, Little Bedwyn
Tucked away in the countryside is this gem of a restaurant, an eatery that has numerous awards to its name. The Harrow earned 3 AA Rosettes shortly after its founding, as well as a Michelin star in 2006. Countless rave reviews have followed, and winning The AA Restaurant of the Year award in 2011 has been the icing on the cake for the owners, Sue and Roger. This is a restaurant that you will want to try out on recommendation alone.

2. Red Lion Freehouse, Pewsey
From the moment you enter this thatched freehouse, you'll feel as if you're retreating into a quintessential countryside pub. The atmosphere and comfort available are unrivalled, and there's a definite 'olde world' charm. The food is certainly not your average pub grub; Guy and Britt's cooking has won them the Michelin Bib Gourmand award in 2011 with carefully sourced dishes such as The Red Lion "Baked Alaska" and home made hot "Scotch Egg".

3. Charter 1227 Restaurant, Salisbury
Voted as the best restaurant from over 134 in Salisbury by TripAdvisor reviewers, Charter 1227 Restaurant has come back with fighting spirit after the fire which closed it in 2011. The elegant food and great service which comes at a reasonable price has been something that many have written home about as a highlight of their trip. A visit to Charter 1227 which you will find tucked away in Salisbury’s ancient Market Square is highly recommended.

4. Anokaa Restaurant, Salisbury
After a few nights of fine dining, why not spice things up with an equally delicious meal at an Indian restaurant? Popular with both locals and visitors to the area, Anokaa offers Indian food which is exceptional, interesting and completely different to the average takeaway.

Eating out at local restaurants can add that extra holiday feeling during a stay in English country cottages, and this list is just a small sample of the many fine restaurants and pubs that can be discovered in Wiltshire.
