There’s so much going on in Wiltshire this summer, we can’t wait to get out and about and visit...
A Dorset museum has been one of the first groups in the UK to have won a Heritage Lottery All Our Stories grant and has been given a sum of £10,000 towards the upkeep of their fascinating exhibitions. Staff and volunteers at the Beaminster museum are said to be delighted to have received this funding and recognition.
There is plenty of history to discover whilst on Dorset cottage holidays, whether this be on a walk along the impressive Jurassic coast or on a visit to one of the many museums in the county. The project which led to the grant being awarded was the exhibition which documented the effects of the flax and hemp industry on the town of Beaminster and the surrounding villages over the last 300 years.
Hanging by a Thread: Our Flax and Hemp Heritage will benefit immensely from the £10,000 grant, as will the other exhibits at Beaminster Museum. Marcus Chambers, chairman of Beaminster Museum, has said that it has been an “outstanding achievement” for the team and they are hoping to continue their success.
