The 2014 New Forest and Hampshire County Show is just over a week away and organisers are expecting the show to attract tens of thousands of people.
Excitement is high for the show, which this year has a ‘Hands On’ theme, with thousands of people from across the country expected to descend on the show grounds at New Park in Brockenhurst.
Those who wish to attend are being urged to book holiday cottages in the New Forest area soon as the 29th-31st July is likely to see a surge in visitors looking for accommodation near Brockenhurst.
A number of activities planned
The ‘Hands On’ theme for this year’s New Forest and Hampshire County Show means that organisers have created a number of activities for visitors to take part in.
One of these 50 activities includes having a go at being a newsreader; BBC South are returning to the festival this year and will be giving visitors the chance to read the news and report on the weather in their fully operational BBC studio. Other fun activities include driving a Subaru 4x4 around a specially designed course, making a scarecrow and milking a cow.
Those staying in English country cottages close to Brockenhurst during the week will want to see the headline act at the very least, with motorbike stuntman Jamie Squibb set to perform in the main ring. The daredevil rider will be performing a number of death-defying jumps off ramps and mounds during his third appearance at the show.
The showground at New Park has had to be updated as organisers for the show are hoping to beat last year’s high of 97,000 spectators. These have included more toilets being built, more seated areas being created and more parking spaces being made available.
The show’s secretary, Denis Dooley, told the Southern Daily Echo, “It’s going to be a really good show – all the planning has gone extremely well.”
