Valentine’s Day, a wonderfully romantic tradition and a chance for loved up couples to celebrate their love or just a great excuse to do something extra special together. But what to do? We’ve compiled this lovely list of things to do as a twosome and romantic holiday cottages to stay in the south of England for Valentine's Day.
1. Romance at Sennen Cove
As restaurant locations go, it doesn’t get better than Ben Tunnicliffe’s restaurant located on, and overlooking the beautiful sea and beach at Sennen Cove. So imagine setting the romantic dining scene at this fabulous restaurant, your other half will love you forever and you will both treasure the memory of the perfectly romantic Valentine’s Day you shared at Sennen this year.

2. Ilfracombe for Two
Ilfracombe is a little seaside gem on the North Devon coast. A picturesque town with lovely shops and restaurants, a little harbour surrounded by sea, beach and cliffs, the perfect place for two to spend a romantic weekend away for Valentine’s Day or any time.
A half hour’s drive from Ilfracombe is the romantic holiday cottage in Woody Bay, Treetops. This wonderful cottage is a real hideaway in the trees, surrounded by secluded National Trust woodland where fallow and red deer are frequent visitors and with beautiful views of the coastline. The rocky cove at Woody Bay, reputed haunt of smugglers and which has a sandy beach at low tide, is approx. 10 minutes' walk further down the lane.
3. Michelin and Romance
Nothing says romance than a good meal for two, and at The West House in the village of Biddenden in Kent, good is a bit of an understatement. The West House is the Michelin-starred restaurant of super star chef Graham Garrett. Kent being ‘the garden of England’, only the best of seasonal and local ingredients are used in Graham Garret’s kitchen where both are used to optimise flavour and deliver the very best in Michelin-starred cuisine.
A short half hour drive from Biddenden in Kent is Frant in Sussex and Granary Cottage, a cleverly converted farm building that is now stylish holiday home in a romantic and secluded setting within the grounds of a country house. A special ‘romance bonus’ for visitors to Granary Cottage are the facilities at neighbouring Knowle Grange Health Spa, including heated, spring water swimming pool & gym, which are available at a preferential rate.
4. Seatown and the Romantic Pub Lunch
Not a town at all, Seatown is among the most wonderful and romantic coastal getaways in the country. Seatown consists of a pebbled beach, a few streams, tall grassy banks ad seacliffs with stunning views of the sea and one of the best dining pubs Dorset has to offer, The Anchor Inn at Seatown. You can spend a romantic break here walking and holding hands, searching for fossils and dining by the fire at the lovely pub. Pure romance.
A 20-minute drive from Seatown is The Old School House, a wonderful property and an opportunity to step back in time and experience what was once the Victorian school house and is now a wonderfully light and airy holiday home. A special place t stay on a romantic break and a great base for exploring the Jurassic coast.
5. Experience Polperro
On the southern coast of Cornwall is the wonderful and romantic village of Polperro. With winding narrow lanes, wonderful views of the picture perfect harbour, a fantastic mix of quirky buildings and fascinating shops and a great selection of pubs and restaurants, Polperro is very much a full day destination. Spend the day in the centre of the village or venture out on one of the picturesque coastal walks in the area or go out on one of the popular boat trips, whatever you do in Polperro, you will enjoy a romantic time as a couple here.

Rainham in Kent is the home of Riverside Country Park, about 100 hectares alongside the Medway Estuary, including Motney Hill and Berengrave Local Nature Reserve. There are various habitats within the park, including mudflats and salt marsh, ponds and reed-beds, grassland and scrub, provide a haven for wildlife and is a wonderful place for two to walk and explore on a lovely Valentine’s weekend away.

Part of what is arguably the best cinema chain in the country, Everyman Cinema in Winchester offers you a wonderful night out for two. Pick a romantic chick flick or a scary movie to get a little bit closer to each other, a night at the movies is romantic for sure and at Everyman you have the added bonus of the trendy, contemporary bar scene too.
A short 20 minutes from Winchester is The Stables at Upham, a romantic and eco-friendly property in the country with horses, chickens and rare-breed pigs in the fields outside and a lovely fireplace inside for curling up on a cool February evening.
9. Koh Thai and Romance in Salisbury
For romantic atmosphere, Koh Thai restaurant in Salisbury takes first place hands down.
