The Cottage really is a 'hideaway'. Situated ½ mile down a 'no through' road (directly overlooking the Bristol Channel and leading to the beach) with almost no passing traffic, it is surrounded by National Trust Woodland where fallow and red deer are frequent visitors. There are superb views of the coastline from above the bay and, for keen walkers, the South West Coast Path is close by. The rocky cove at Woody Bay, reputed haunt of smugglers and which has a sandy beach at low tide, is a 10 minute walk beyond the cottage.
The property is excellently placed for the country lover, with a wide variety of outdoor pursuits - horse riding, sea, lake and fly-fishing, and golf (Saunton Sands or Ilfracombe) - on offer. Exmoor (smallest but one of the most beautiful of England's National Parks) rises behind the rocky cliffs, with its moors, streams and famous Lorna Doone associations. Local village amenities are available at Lynton & Lynmouth (approx. 5 miles), the historic market town of Barnstaple is 16 miles and the seaside resort of Minehead 20 miles.
Accommodation
The Cottage is a detached, single storey building with a large, very private deck area (sea glimpses in winter); the owner's premises are on adjoining land. It has been refurbished to a high standard and offers ideal accommodation for a couple with the added benefit of an attic room accessed by steep stairs, which provides an ideal eyrie for older children aged 9 or above.
Entrance into small fitted kitchen. Sitting room with dining area and with French doors leading out onto a large deck with barbecue. Double bedroom with brass bed. Bathroom/wc with elec. power shower above the bath. Small flight of steep, open tread stairs to children's attic room (please bring own sleeping bags/ inflatable mattresses).
