Well Cottage stands on a quiet country lane in the tiny South Dorset hamlet of Throop. Like its immediate next door neighbour, The Owl Box (H324), it is an ancient dwelling, Grade II listed and built of cob, brick and thatch. Very much a small rural retreat near the end of the Piddle Valley, it is also within very easy driving distance of Dorset's World Heritage, Jurassic coast with beaches at Lulworth Cove, Ringstead Bay and Kimmeridge only about 10 miles away and the Isle of Purbeck (Corfe Castle, Swanage, Studland Bay) a little further.

This corner of Dorset is ideal for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers. It is also blessed with interesting and unusual visitor attractions, Athelhampton (stately home), The Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum (trace the beginnings of the Trade Union Movement), Thomas Hardy's Cottage (N.T), Cloud's Hill (home of 'Lawrence of Arabia'), Monkey World (sanctuary for primates) and the Bovington Tank Musuem all being within a 10 miles radius.

Newly refurbished in 2008, Well Cottage still looks and feels like a much older dwelling and retains much of its original charm - large inglenook fireplace with bread oven in the sitting room, original beams (NB low headroom in places) and charmingly uneven floors upstairs. Approached by a garden path leading to the rear entrance, the cottage has an attractive garden with lawn and shrubs.

Accommodation

Entrance lobby area for coats etc. (NB. changes in level when you first enter the cottage). Sitting/dining room with inglenook fireplace containing a Rayburn for central heating and hot water; access to front entrance porch. Fitted kitchen with breakfast table. Bathroom/wc with independent shower above the bath. Enclosed staircase to first floor landing. Two bedrooms - one double with a 5 ft bed and cast iron fireplace (decorative only), and one single room with wash basin.
