The spring fed lake in its woodland setting

Deep in the countryside on the borders of Wiltshire and Dorset, Cools Farm is the magical setting for two self-catering cottages, sensitively created from redundant farm buildings.

The farm is a wonderful place to escape to, with far reaching views over the surrounding countryside and great opportunities for walking on the Wessex Ridgeway, part of which crosses the farm, and for cycling on the nearby Wessex Cycle Way. If fishing is your passion, Cools Farm has a spring fed lake in a natural woodland setting, stocked with brown and rainbow trout. The owners run an organically managed herd of Red Poll cattle, which produce delicious grass fed meat. There are free-range chickens too, with fresh eggs available to visitors. This is a great place for children and the owners are very happy to explain the workings of the farm.

Attractions in the area are numerous – the Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury (Gold Hill & Abbey ruins) is 6 miles away and the cathedral city of Salisbury, Stourhead house and gardens, Longleat and Old Wardour Castle are within half an hour’s drive. The many and varied attractions of the Georgian city of Bath and the South Dorset coastline (both awarded UNESCO World Heritage status) are also reachable in an hour or less.

The latest development at Cools Farm is the creation of two carefully designed cottages, which replace redundant buildings in the heart of the farm (there are cattle around in the winter months). The Milking Parlour and The Tractor Shed have all their accommodation at ground floor level and can be booked individually or jointly using the interconnecting double doors. Both cottages have eco-friendly underfloor heating and WiFi broadband access.

Trout Fishing

A beautiful, spring fed lake in a private, natural woodland setting has been stocked with brown and rainbow trout. Fishing (in season) is available for guests, both novices and experienced anglers, staying at the cottages. Arrangements and payment for this will be made direct to the owners.

Accommodation

Entrance up outside steps into a spacious open plan living room comprising a sitting area, dining area and small fitted kitchen. Bedroom with 5ft double bed. En suite shower room/wc.

Small garden terrace. Visitors are welcome to walk around the bluebell woodland surrounding the private lake.
