Higher Ansty is set in breathtaking scenery with marvellous country walks all around; climb to the top of Bulbarrow Hill, which at 900 feet, affords magnificent views across Wessex or visit the nearby village of Milton Abbas landscaped by Capability Brown with its 18th century thatched model workers’ cottages lining the main street. This part of Dorset also boasts a number of historic houses including Kingston Lacy, Athelhampton and Hardy’s Cottage and there are plenty of good country pubs to discover, the nearest being The Fox Inn in Ansty itself.

Further afield but still within an hour’s drive are Stourhead (world famous, landscaped gardens), Longleat (stately home & Safari park), Sherborne (Abbey & Castles), the cathedral city of Salisbury and Georgian Bath with its many architectural splendours. Ansty is also within comfortable driving distance of Dorset’s World Heritage “Jurassic” coastline, a must for a day’s excursion, with the sandy beaches at Studland Bay and Weymouth only about 30 to 40 minutes away.

The Old Stables provide very comfortable and tastefully furnished accommodation for a family or two couples.
