Quietly situated along a country lane, deep in the Hampshire countryside, yet only about 6 miles from the historic cathedral city of Winchester, this former Methodist chapel (c.1861) has been converted with flair and imagination to provide self-catering accommodation to a very high specification.

The Old Chapel provides an ideal base from which to explore the numerous visitor attractions in the surrounding area. Within half an hour's drive are the major sea ports of Southampton and Portsmouth (HMS Victory and The Mary Rose), The New Forest, Marwell Zoo, the beautiful Meon and Itchen Valleys, which inspired Izaak Walton 'the father of angling', as well as many historic towns and villages - Georgian Alresford (Watercress Line Steam Railway) and Chawton (home of the author, Jane Austen). Nearby Winchester, England's ancient Anglo-Saxon capital is steeped in history with many medieval buildings waiting to be discovered, including the magnificent Norman cathedral and the legendary, Arthurian Round Table housed in The Great Hall. If you're looking for a quiet weekend away and would prefer not to venture too far, then why not explore this unspoilt part of the countryside using the numerous footpaths and bridlepaths in the area immediately surrounding the chapel.

The Old Chapel stands in its own garden with original features - rounded arch windows and internal shutters - well preserved and with a few of the trappings that you might expect to find in a chapel, an old pew, a hymn board, even a "prie-dieu" blending unobtrusively into the general decorative scheme. Very light and uncluttered, the interior combines a high degree of comfort with excellent facilities, all in all a very desirable base from which to explore this attractive part of Southern England.
