A high quality conversion of traditional, Victorian mellow brick and slate farm buildings into three high quality cottages with the added attraction of an integral, heated, indoor swimming pool ...
Conygre Farm is situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Pewsey Vale. Its unusual name provides the clue to its original purpose. The farm once provided rabbits for the lord and master of the ancient Savernake Estate to hunt - 'Conygre' means 'rabbit enclosure' in medieval French. The farm has changed and evolved over the centuries and is now 340 acres of rolling, arable land with 35 acres of environmental 'features' including four newly planted woods, a wild flower and 'wild bird' meadow, to promote and enhance the natural flora and fauna - it now supports many different bird species (barn owls, lapwings, golden plover, grey partridge), wild mammals (hares & deer, not to mention the odd rabbit) and is the registered site of rare species of wild flowers.
The latest development at Conygre Farm is the conversion of some of the farm buildings, which would once have been a milking parlour; bull pens and granary, into three top quality interconnecting holiday cottages providing accommodation for up to 21 people with the added attraction of an integral indoor heated swimming pool, easily accessible from each cottage and, in the case of The Burrow or The Warren, without the need even to step outside. The cottages are ideal for larger groups or for several families wishing to holiday together with dining for up to 21 in The Burrow's open plan living area. (Outside catering can be arranged). The Burrow and The Warren are at either end of an indoor walkway adjacent to the swimming pool and The Old Cart Shed adjoins The Warren.
From the farm there are 360° views of both sides of the valley up to the downs and plenty of walks on the farm. In the local area The Kennet & Avon Canal, a mile away, offers narrow boat trips while the ancient Savernake Forest, (3 miles) is good for walks and picnics. The area is rich in prehistoric, archaeological sites such as Avebury, Stonehenge and Silbury Hill while the historic cities of Bath, Oxford and Salisbury are within an hour's drive. The nearest market town is Marlborough (7 miles) while nearby Pewsey has a main line rail link to London, good local shops and a supermarket.
Swimming pool/games facilities
The indoor pool (approx. 8 metres x 4 metres) and open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. can be accessed via a communal indoor walkway. It has its own changing room with shower and wc and is for the private use of visitors. A games room with table tennis, darts, games and an arts and crafts area for smaller children, as well as a tumble drier and freezer, is located in a separate barn on the other side of the courtyard.
Accommodation
The Old Cart Shed offers light, spacious and versatile accommodation on two floors with two of the four bedrooms being at ground floor level. As with The Warren and The Burrow, original exposed timberwork adds character and style to this very attractive cottage. N.B. there are changes of level within the ground floor lay-out. The cottage has its own fenced garden area with a paved patio and lawn as well as access out onto the large, enclosed, attractively landscaped courtyard shared with The Burrow and The Warren. N.B. The Old Cart Shed is located alongside the farmyard and can be subject to tractors passing by during busy times.
Entrance from the courtyard into a hallway for coats etc. Corridor with under-stairs utility area. Very light, open plan living room comprising a sitting area with a woodburner and French windows leading to the garden, a dining area and a fitted kitchen. 2 downstairs bedrooms - one double and one with zip & link beds offering a choice of king size double or twin beds. Shower room/wc. Upstairs: 2 bedrooms - one twin, so called the 'hobbit bedroom' because of its low access, and one single under the eaves with a bed on a low base. Bathroom/w.c. with hand shower attachment to the bath.
