This is an enchanting cottage situated by the owners’ 18th century farmhouse, in the north Dorset village of Motcombe. Skilfully restored from a derelict bakehouse by its owner, an interior designer, it offers all the character and charm you would expect to find in a Grade II listed, 18th century cottage, combined with excellent facilities including underfloor heating downstairs.
The Old Bakehouse is 2 hours by car from London, or by train from nearby Gillingham, and is ideally situated for visiting a whole host of historic sites - Stourhead, Longleat, Stonehenge, Wardour Castle, the Cerne Abbas Giant to name but a few. Bath, Salisbury and Sherborne are all within an easy drive while the World Heritage, South Dorset coastline is approx 45 minutes away. The Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury, which offers good local shops, a High Street market, pubs and restaurants, is just 2 miles.
This part of Dorset boasts some of the finest countryside in the South of England, providing superb opportunities for walking, with magnificent views from the great chalk ridges, and for cycling in the low lying Blackmore Vale. Riding (Motcombe Equestrian Centre) and Golf (Rushmore Park) are also available locally.
The Old Bakehouse has been decorated and furnished with enormous taste and care; furnishings and fittings are of high quality throughout and much attention has been paid to detail.
