Dating back to 1720, this Grade II listed cottage has been lavishly modernised and harmoniously extended to provide accommodation of an exceptional standard. Formerly the gardener's cottage to an historic moat house, it lies in the ancient settlement of Britford - the church has Saxon origins - amidst the Avon Valley watermeadows, 3 miles to the south of the cathedral city of Salisbury.
Within a 15 minute drive is the northern perimeter of the New Forest National Park and a little over half an hour's drive, following the River Avon on its journey south, is Christchurch on the Dorset coast. Visitor attractions in the surrounding area are numerous; there are houses and gardens of great beauty - Wilton House, Breamore, Heale House, Longleat, Stourhead - as well as Britain's most famous prehistoric monument, the World Heritage site of Stonehenge. A short drive or 15 minute walk along the tow path from Britford is medieval Salisbury with its magnificent 13th century cathedral and cathedral close, Charter market place and extensive range of shops, pubs, pavement café's and restaurants. The city also has a leisure centre with indoor swimming pool, theatre and arts centre. In May it hosts an international Arts Festival. Britford itself is fortunate in having an award winning farm shop, just 100 yards from the cottage, where locally produced and sourced Wiltshire produce is available - advance orders & delivery to the cottage can be arranged.
Renovating a Grade II listed cottage in a conservation village is a major project and The Moat Cottage is no exception. The owners have been at pains to preserve the original character & features while providing 21st century, 'state of the art' living amenities. At The Moat Cottage you will find not only carefully restored original brickwork, small pane windows, original internal shutters, and exposed beams and timberwork but also under floor heating, top of the range kitchen and bathroom appliances, traditionally made George Smith furniture and Porta Romana lamps.
