Graded 4 stars by Visit Britain (Gold Award for exceptional quality of accommodation), Seniors Farm Cottage is peacefully situated at the end of a long farm track and looks out across acres of undulating pastureland grazed by sheep and horses and beyond to the wooded hilltops of the Wiltshire/Dorset border
This part of southern England, where Wiltshire blends with Dorset is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, much appreciated for its unspoilt downland and contrasting sheltered valleys. This is a lovely area to explore on foot, cycle or by car and there are many pretty villages with stone and thatch cottages where historic country pubs with good restaurants are still plentiful. Seniors Cottage also provides a very central touring base, being within two hours' drive of London and less than an hour from the South Dorset heritage coastline. It is also an easy drive from Salisbury, Bath, Stonehenge, Longleat, and such hidden treasures as Stourhead Gardens and 13th century Wardour Castle.
The Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury, famous for the cobbled street Gold Hill and with spectacular views across the surrounding Dorset landscape, is only 3 miles and offers comprehensive shopping facilities. Semley itself is an attractive village with a pub beside the pond, school, church and renowned auction rooms.
Comments from previous visitors
"We were extremely pleased with the accommodation, to put it mildly, and everything conspired to make it a thoroughly wonderful break. The cottage was a home from home in a beautiful location, very clean and well equipped, with the welcome being just that - very welcome - and practical too. The wine went down well! My wife does not drink so I had the dreadful task of having to drink the whole bottle - someone had to do it! Seriously, we would highly recommend S.F.C. and intend to stay there again as soon as possible. Thank you for your service over the years we have been using you." Mr & Mrs Hanlon, September 2009.
"We couldn't have asked for a more welcoming and comfortable place to stay, with so many thoughtful touches and friendly hosts. A delightful base from which to explore a beautiful part of the country." Mr & Mrs Kent, April 2010.
