Peacefully located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the borders of Wiltshire and Dorset, this is a stunning barn conversion (Visit England 4 stars, Gold Award) decorated and furnished in a contemporary style with light, uncluttered living spaces and incorporating the latest ecologically friendly underfloor heating system.
The surrounding area boasts some of the finest countryside in southern England, offering marvellous walking and riding across rolling chalk grassland and ancient woodland, which supports a rich diversity of wildlife. Unspoilt country villages with stone and thatch cottages blend harmoniously into this landscape, many of them with excellent country pubs and restaurants. Visitor attractions in this area are numerous – the Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury and Old Wardour Castle are both 10 minutes away and the cathedral city of Salisbury about half an hour. Bath, Stourhead, Longleat, Stonehenge and the World Heritage Dorset coastline are all reachable in an hour or less.
Pythouse Barn stands in the owners’ grounds overlooking a large garden. Natural materials are a feature of the barn - original stone walling, seagrass matting, flagstone and oak floors are in evidence throughout the accommodation and the walls are hung with impressive and highly decorative contemporary art. Facilities include wireless broadband, ‘FreeSat’, high-definition TV and an Ipod docking station.
This is arranged with the bedrooms and bathrooms on the ground floor and the very large open plan living area upstairs so as to maximise the views and outlook. Entrance hall with flagged floor. Double bedroom with 5ft bed (NB low doorway) and ensuite bathroom with shower above the bath. Twin bedroom with extra pull-out bed. Separate shower room/wc. Stairs lead from the hallway to a large, open plan, double height living room with at one end a sitting area and woodburning stove and at the other a spacious fitted kitchen and dining table. Double doors from this room open out onto a balcony overlooking the garden.
There is an attractive, gravelled and paved area immediately in front of the barn and beyond this a large lawned area.
Pure bliss in lovely area
We first stayed at Pythouse Barn in February and chose to return as soon as we could. The Barn is cosy, airy, and has a wonderful open plan top floor which seemed to get sunshine all day. Bedrooms are roomy, and there are two bathrooms. Everywhere was spotless. The owner met us and lit a fire in the main room for us, as soon as we arrived. We discovered wine and chocolates once we'd settled in. Outside there is a lovely garden, which the owner happily let my teenage son play football in, as well as allow our lively puppy to run about. The area itself is very pretty. There is a fabulous cafe a walk away at the Pythouse Walled Garden, which does great breakfast and lunches, surrounded by a beautiful, kitchen garden. Early morning walks with a young dog were blissful - in February we saw endless snow drops, and in April so many other flowers, which were either out or in bud. Walks are endless, and be sure to visit The Beckford Arms pub for brilliant food and hospitality. Shaftesbury a short drive away - famous for Hovis ad.Guests' review on TripAdvisor, January 20 2016. 5 of 5 stars. Re: stays in February and April 2015.

We have spent a very relaxing family weekend at Pythouse Barn. Lots of lovely walks, coming back to the barn and snuggling together in front of the log burner. Thank you very much for such a wonderful stay. We will be back. The North family, February 2015

Lovely, peaceful, clean and comfortable.
Lovely, well provided-for cottage. Quiet location. Everything was really clean and well prepared. The kitchen was well equipped and things were as advertised. Friendly and helpful owner. Good area and surrounds with plenty of interest within driving distance. Really enjoyed the stay and would definitely visit again if appropriate.Guests' review on TripAdvisor, October 18 2013. 5 of 5 stars.
I used this barn conversion for a base to meet up and entertain local friends. I used the great walled garden restaurant down the road for a party of 17 and could not have been happier with the property the location or the friendly on-site owner. I was travelling with my dog and this property was also perfect for her.Guests' review on TripAdvisor, October 6 2013
