Set in a commanding position at the entrance to a Sussex farm, this very tasteful conversion of an 19th century oast house enjoys far reaching views over the garden and main farmhouse, which lie below it and of the farmland beyond. From the Oast there are great opportunities for walking both across the farm’s fields and by following the ancient footpaths in the vicinity. This part of East Sussex, bordering Kent, also offers an abundance of visitor attractions, including a plethora of castles, stately homes and gardens – Battle Abbey, site of the Battle of Hastings, Scotney, Bodiam & Hever Castles, Batemans, magnificent home of Rudyard Kipling, Sissinghurst, Great Dixter – to name but a few. There are several good golf courses in the area and nearby Bewl Water Reservoir offers a variety of different watersports. A long stretch of the East Sussex coastline from the Severn Sisters County Park near Eastbourne across to the ancient Cinque Ports of Winchelsea & Rye is within 45 minutes’ to an hour’s driving distance. Brighton, the south of England’s most vibrant seaside town, is also a must for a day’s excursion.

Nearer to home, there are many attractive villages, such as historic Mayfield with its well- known Elizabethan pub, waiting to be discovered. Wadhurst, 2 miles away offers a range of local shops and has a main line station to London Charing Cross (an hour’s journey).

Traditionally used for drying local hops, The Oast has been sensitively restored and converted, the original timber structure being a real feature throughout the property. The accommodation is to a particularly high standard and an unusually comprehensive range of facilities is provided, making this a highly desirable base for exploring this interesting and historic part of Sussex.

Comments from previous visitors

"We wanted to tell you how happy we are to have found this beautiful cottage. The oast house is wonedrful, decorated with taste and with everything one could need. On the day of our arrival there was a package of welcome goodies. The owner showed us the house and was very friendly." Montserrat Riera, August 2009.

We have never had a holiday rental in the UK but we know of property up here in Cumbria, which is rated as 5 star and, believe me, it isn't in the same league as The Oast House. If there is a better equipped property on your books we would be surprised. The whole experience from driving up to a converted oast and finding a well thought out welcome basket through to the very prompt refund of our security deposit was, quite simply, a pleasure." Mr & Mrs Harbron, March 2010.
