Peacefully located down a country lane in the village of Bentley, just below the church and opposite a vineyard, the Mews Cottage, part of the former farm outbuildings, is the perfect retreat for exploring this unspoilt part of the Hampshire/Surrey borders.
Standing in the grounds of a larger house it offers a good degree of privacy to its guests, with its own garden area bordered by box hedging and partly screened by magnificent Flowering Cherry and Judas trees. Further down the garden is a hard tennis court, which visitors are also welcome to use.
This part of Hampshire has much to offer; there are several rewarding “village trails” to follow associated with famous literary figures and writers: Chawton and Steventon for Jane Austen, Selborne for Gilbert White and the Meon and Itchen Valleys for Isaac Walton. The Vyne and Hinton Ampner are impressive stately homes and for “steam” enthusiasts the Watercress railway line runs from Alton to Arlesford. There are also several larger towns and historic cities within easy driving distance. Farnham, 5 miles away, is an attractive Georgian town with a good range of shops, Alton with its listed Picture House (cinema) is 6 miles and Basingstoke (ice arena, waterpark and cinema) a little further. The cathedral cities of Guildford and Winchester are half an hour away while London is a 60 -75 minute train journey from Bentley Station.
