Two tastefully converted barns in the grounds of a medieval manor house...........
These two cottages enjoy an idyllic setting at the end of a no-through road in the grounds of an ancient Grade II Listed manor house. Stoke Trister itself is a tiny hamlet on the borders of Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset, just over a mile from the main A303 road to the South West yet its geographical location, tucked away in a small valley with beautiful views across open countryside, makes it feel far more remote than that.
The cottages form one side of a large courtyard area, where the owners run their (quiet) complementary therapy business and are very happy to advise on local walking and history, gardens and therapies available. Also on offer are a games room with table tennis and use of the hard tennis court in the grounds (private lessons from the owner, who is a professional coach, available by arrangement).
Beyond the courtyard is the large Manor House pond into which spring waters flow from the hillside above, making this a magical setting. Country walks start from your door but if you wish to venture further afield then the whole area has many visitor attractions within easy driving distance - King Alfred's Tower, Stourhead House and Gardens (N.T.), Stonehenge, Longleat, Bath, Salisbury, Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury - while a beautiful stretch of the South Dorset Heritage coastline from Poole to Portland Bill (including Studland Bay, Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove) is reachable in about an hour.
Much skill and energy has gone into the conversion of these two farm buildings so as to provide attractive, well planned, practical living areas with good kitchen and bathroom appliances while at the same time taking care to preserve original features e.g. natural stone exteriors and exposed timber trusses.
