As the name implies, this cottage once housed the keeper whose job it was to operate the lock immediately adjacent to it. Recently renovated to a high standard, the cottage now offers bright and comfortable accommodation with a grandstand view of narrowboats on the Kennet and Avon Canal, either moored to the bank or moving slowly along and `locking through` just beyond the garden. If you fancy exploring the canal yourself, narrow boat trips can be arranged at Bradford-on-Avon or you can just follow the towpath, which affords scenic walks - to a conveniently placed pub “The Barge Inn” in one direction! The whole area contains much of interest for day excursions: Longleat House and Safari Park, Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain, Bowood House (including golf) and Lacock Abbey are all within easy reach by car, while the beautiful Georgian city of Bath, a World Heritage site, is only 20 miles away.
Lock Keeper’s Cottage has been thoughtfully redesigned to provide light and surprisingly large spaces and is a very pleasant base for exploring this interesting area.
The cottage is graded 4 stars by Visit Britain.

This is all at ground floor level. Entrance to lobby and hallway. Large, bright kitchen/dining area with French windows leading out to the garden. Comfortable sitting room with woodburner. Two bedrooms off sitting room, one double and one twin. Further (very small) single bedroom off hall. Bathroom/wc with roll-top bath. Further shower room/wc.
Outside: utility room in outbuilding. Garden, bordering the canal on one side and open fields on the other, with gravelled area, lawn and flower beds. Barbecue. Bike storage available in garden shed. (NB although the garden is separated from the canalside by a low wall and gate, children must be supervised at all times).
