On the western edge of the Quantock Hills, in an exceptionally pretty valley, Little Barton is an attractive single storey, stone-built cottage, adjacent to the owners` property. The immediate area contains a wide variety of attractions, the wild beauty of Exmoor, the sea at East Quantoxhead, Watchet Harbour & Marina, the county town of Taunton for shopping, and a number of historic properties such as Dunster Castle (NT) all being an easy drive away. For steam train enthusiasts, this is paradise: the West Somerset Railway operates a daytime service from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard mainly in the spring, summer & autumn, and for a reasonable outlay you can spend all day on the trains, wallowing in nostalgia!

The compact accommodation has been thoughtfully laid out with lovely views down to the river and there is an attractive sitting-out area immediately in front: but the undoubted piece de resistance is the extraordinarily beautiful woodland glade, which can be viewed from a 'look-out deck' situated at the end of of the immaculately maintained 2 acre lawns in front of the house. Guests have full and unrestricted access to this area, which also has a large pond with rowing dinghy, trout stream (paddling and fishing), and a log cabin (with candle lanterns provided for evening barbecues). This is a magical setting for relaxing and watching the considerable variety of wildlife. It is the owners` priority - and pleasure - to make sure their guests really enjoy their holiday, and a few minutes spent glancing through the visitors` book will give you an idea of the pleasure Little Barton can give - and staying here will have you reaching for your pen to add your own eulogies!

Comments from previous visitors

"Lovely, cosy cottage in idyllic setting - so tranquil and relaxing. Steam trains icing on the cake!" Mr & Mrs Small, September 2008.

" A restful holiday amongst great countryside with perfect hosts. Just what we needed." Mr & Mrs French, June 2009.

"A great spot to spend a holiday week. The cottage itself is good without being as modern as some, but it is surpassed by its setting in a most beautiful garden. There is even a viewing platform overlooking the extensive garden area. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there." Jan and Brian from Australia, May 2010.
