Two cottages recently created from former outbuildings in the grounds of a country house, close to the River Severn ......

Situated in a quiet and peaceful location on the edge of the Forest of Dean, these cottages have been converted to a very high standard, graded 4 stars by Visit Britain, using all the latest ecologically-friendly devices including geo-thermal heating throughout; and with facilities for the disabled in Hamstalls, the larger of the two. Both cottages are at ground floor level and have their own lawned and paved garden area with barbecue and shared use of a small orchard beyond. The site, on a reed-bordered bend of the tidal part of the Severn below Gloucester, affords excellent views of the river (watch the surfers on the famous Bore!) and almost immediate access across the fields to the Severn Way footpath.

The surrounding countryside has to rate among the finest in central England; the Forest of Dean itself with its ancient mines and 300 year old oak trees offers superb walking, cycling and riding on marked trails while from nearby Lydney you can take a trip on the newly opened Dean Forest Railway (steam locomotive to Parkend). The cottages are also ideally placed for exploring the deep gorges of the Wye Valley, where fishing, caving and canoeing are some of the outdoor activities to be enjoyed. Symonds Yat Rock, a nesting site for Peregrine Falcons, offers long views stretching along the valley and taking in several counties.

There are many ancient sites to explore in the region - the Welsh border castles, Tintern Abbey, the cathedral city of Gloucester - while the Cotswolds, Brecon Beacons and the Malvern Hills are all within easy driving distance.

Hamstalls and Hoolet can be booked jointly with dining and seating for 6 in Hamstalls living area.
