Situated on a country lane within walking distance of the Hampshire village of Selborne, The Garden Studio enjoys an enviable position in the grounds of a larger cottage, set in some 11 acres of farmland and with far-reaching views over the surrounding landscape.
Selborne is well known through its associations with the Rev. Gilbert White, author of the world famous Natural History of Selborne, who lived here in the 18th century. The surrounding countryside, much of it managed by the National Trust, remains a walker and botanist's paradise - take the zig-zag path to Selborne Hanger or join the "Hanger's Way" Walk from Alton to Petersfield. In the village itself visit Gilbert White's House & The Oates Museum, or have a look round the local pottery studio, art gallery and the impressive Norman church.
Beyond Selborne there are other interesting literary associations to explore - Chawton, 3 miles away was the home of writer, Jane Austen and the Meon and Itchen Valleys inspired Isaac Walton, "the father of angling". Within 45 minutes' drive are a whole host of visitor attractions - the cathedral cities of Winchester, Chichester and Guildford, Portsmouth (HMS Victory & Mary Rose) Goodwood (horse racing & Festival of Speed), as well as West Sussex beaches and sailing harbours. Alton, Petersfield and Basingstoke offer comprehensive sports/leisure centres and there's an 18 hole golf course at Liphook.
This property is new to our listings.
