Enjoying an open uninterrupted view across pasture land to Hambledon Hill, Giddy Acre Barn is peacefully situated a little way down a track on a smallholding on the fringes of Child Okeford. The barn makes an ideal holiday retreat for a family – the owners keep sheep and chickens and the surrounding area is marvellous for walking or cycling. Join the Dorset ‘Trailway’ which runs from Shillingstone to Sturminster, explore Hambledon Hill Fort (Iron Age ditches and fortifications), Hod Hill and Bulbarrrow (900ft) or join the network of pathways leading to the village, where you’ll find an exceptionally wide range of facilities – post office, general stores, weekly fish & chip van, two pubs, health and beauty salon. Just up the track, visit the organic farm shop, café and art gallery run by the owner of Giddy Acre Barn, with regular exhibitions by major contemporary artists. For other local shopping and sightseeing, the Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury and Georgian Blandford Forum are both within 20 minutes’ drive.
A must of course for visitors to this area is an excursion, several perhaps, to Dorset’s spectacular and richly varied World Heritage Jurassic coastline with Poole Harbour (Sandbanks, Studland Bay, Brownsea Island) and the Isle of Purbeck (Corfe Castle, Durdle Door and Kimmeridge) being about half an hour’s drive directly south of here.
Architect designed to very high specifications and attractively furnished in a contemporary style, Giddy Acre Barn replaces an old milking parlour. It has all its accommodation at ground floor level, with an entrance from the parking area across a paved patio area and then through glazed double doors. The barn might suit guests with limited mobility but please let us know your requirements first before booking.
