Hidden away in a woodland clearing in the idyllic grounds of a private country house within the Dartmoor National Park, Garden Cottage (the whole of the property in exterior picture) is a picture-postcard Devon retreat. The surroundings exude tranquillity yet the cottage is only 2 miles from the nearest town and the main road, with excellent access to the almost limitless attractions of the area: Exeter and Plymouth are little over half an hour away and the superb beaches and coastal paths of the South Hams are also within very easy reach. The whole area is full of interest with castles (Powderham, Dartmouth, Berry Pomeroy etc.) and National Trust properties (Coleton Fishacre, Compton Castle and Agatha Christie`s former holiday home, Greenway) all around. There is a very wide range of children`s activities, including the well-known River Dart Adventures on the doorstep. A particular bonus is that game fishing (salmon and sea-trout) can be arranged on a private, productive and highly regarded stretch of the River Dart, which passes through the grounds. The outstandingly beautiful area of woodland and riverbank below the cottages (an SSSI) is also available for guests to walk and picnic in - a rare privilege.

Situated on its own beyond Groom's Cottage and Carriage House, Garden Cottage is equipped to a very high standard, including Villeroy and Bosch china, and is instantly attractive: light, bright rooms, a wonderfully peaceful, walled garden and overall, absolutely everything the visitor could want for a holiday in one of the most beautiful parts of the West Country.

Accommodation

entrance via small lobby to large light kitchen/dining area with very big electric `range` cooker, large circular dining table and French window to patio and garden. Sitting room with wood burning stove and further door to garden. Two downstairs bedrooms, one with double bed and one with zip & link (ie choice of double or twin beds), both rooms with en suite bathrooms (shower over bath). Upstairs, via steep, open-tread wooden stairs from kitchen, large loft bedroom divided into two areas; sleeping area with zip & link bed offering choice of king size double or twin beds; and a sitting/play area with TV (NB unsuitable for small children because of steepness of stairs).

Outside: patio area accessed from kitchen with steps down to large, peaceful and sunny lawned area within lovely old stone walls. Garden furniture and barbecue.
