The Old Bakery has 17th century origins and has been beautifully refurbished by its owners to retain much of its original character whilst providing very comfortable and attractive accommodation. In the main street of the small village of Clearwell in the heart of the Forest of Dean, it is very well-positioned for the many and varied attractions the area has to offer, including the historic iron mines at Clearwell Caves, just up the road.
This part of the Forest has some of its most attractive woodland areas with superb walking, cycling and riding all around. For railway enthusiasts the steam train from Lydney to Parkend is a `must`: there is fishing and canoeing on the Wye not far away, and a wide range of places of interest to visit within easy driving distance, including the Welsh border castles,Tintern Abbey, Symonds Yat, Gloucester Cathedral and Chepstow (castle and racecourse). The Dean Heritage Centre is also well worth a visit.
