These two adjoining beach houses, built in 1924, are part of a cluster of properties situated along a small coast road, formerly a bridle path, at Normans Bay by the Martello Tower shown in the main exterior picture. The Tower is one of a line built along the coast during the Napoleonic Wars. The beach is shingle with firm, flat sands at low tide, ideal for paddling and swimming or, if you prefer, fishing for Sea Bass.
This of course is an historic part of southern Britain for it was at Pevensey, 2 miles along the coast, that the Norman Conquest began 950 years ago. Seven hundred years before that the Romans built a fortress there as part of their coastal defence again Saxon invaders. Today the ruins of both the Roman fortress and Norman castle can be visited. This part of the coast, still relatively unspoilt, is also a haven for nature lovers; the Pevensey levels are home to a diverse range of flora and fauna and have been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The surrounding area offers plenty to see and do; within easy driving distance are Eastbourne, Hastings, Battle and Rye, Drusillas Zoo, several vineyards and a number of attractive villages.
Pevensey provides for local shopping needs and there is a small railway station at Normans Bay itself.
This property is new to our listings.
Accommodation
Looking inland, across to the Pevensey Marshes, Fisherman's Cottage has been completely refurbished by its owner to provide a well equipped and very comfortable base for its visitors; there is a light, very practical, open plan living area and decking with garden furniture to the front of the property for 'al fresco' meals and relaxation.
The interior is all at ground floor level with an entrance to the side of the cottage up a few steps into a glazed porch. Small entrance hallway. Open plan living room comprising a sitting area with a small fireplace containing an electric 'woodburning look-alike' stove, a dining area and a well equipped fitted kitchen area with French doors leading out onto the deck and views across to the Pevensey Marshes. 2 bedrooms - 1 double and 1 twin. Bathroom/wc with separate shower cubicle.
