Strathdene, a typically slate-hung Cornish cottage, is very well situated near the top end of the main street of the small and immensely attractive fishing village of Kingsand. Forming part of the Rame peninsula and merging with the adjoining village of Cawsand below a wooded headland, Kingsand has an almost continental feel. It is full of narrow streets, small and quirky cottages and unexpected glimpses of the sea. The village has everything the holidaymaker could need, including shops, pubs, restaurants, a delicatessen - and very friendly people. There is a pleasant beach of sand and pebbles with wide views of Plymouth Sound, and sea fishing from the rocks. Close by to the east is Mount Edgcumbe Park with 800 acres of walks and gardens; and access to Plymouth either by car via the Torpoint ferry, or on foot from Cawsand to the Mayflower Steps (summer only). To the west lies the huge sandy beach of Whitsand Bay with a growing reputation for surfing - a children`s paradise. The South West Coastal Path follows the headland; and for day excursions Anthony House (NT) is nearby, as are both Looe and Polperro. The Eden Project near St. Austell is not far down the coast.

Strathdene itself is a most attractive and inviting place to stay. The bright and well decorated rooms are on three floors and are surprisingly large, giving an unexpectedly spacious feel; and the bedroom arrangement allows guests (up to a maximum of 7) considerable flexibility of accommodation. The west facing courtyard at the back of the cottage is a sun-trap well into the evening, and for out of season holidays, the sitting room with its efficient woodburner is extremely cosy. Strathdene is a wonderful base for exploring this beautiful corner of south east Cornwall.
