Set halfway down the only ‘street’ in the scenic village of Milton Abbas, Church Cottage has been thoughtfully modernised to provide very attractive accommodation. The white washed, cob and thatched cottages, which line the street were all built in the late 1700’s when the then owner of Milton Abbey commissioned architect Sir William Chambers and landscapist Capability Brown to design a new ‘model’ village away from the abbey. All the cottages, fronted by a lawn, are set well back from the gently sloping road, flanked by woodland, which curves down to a lake at the bottom.
The immediate surrounding area offers superb walking; there are footpaths leading around the lake and to Milton Abbey, while a few miles away, Bulbarrow Hill at 900 feet offers magnificent views right across Wessex.
Conveniently located in the south of the county, Milton Abbas is within easy reach of the area’s many attractions: the Georgian market town of Blandford is 7 miles away, the county town of Dorchester 11 and a beautiful stretch of the Jurassic coastline from Poole and the Isle of Purbeck to Weymouth is within half an hour’s drive. Sherborne Abbey, the Cerne Abbas Giant, Kingston Lacy and Corfe Castle are among the many visitor attractions in this part of Dorset.
Church Cottage is the right hand half of a pair of cottages shown in the exterior picture. Inside, the accommodation is in prime condition, decorated in neutral Farrow & Ball colours and tastefully furnished throughout. It has a pleasant patio beside the cottage and a large, terraced rear garden rising up behind the cottage. Please note that there are several low doorways and changes in level between the rooms in the cottage.
