These two stone cottages stand quietly by a bridge, their garden extending down to a small river (the River Mangerton), which passes underneath it. Located on the edge of the small village of Powerstock, which nestles at the foot of the ancient Eggardon Hill Fort, they offer a very comfortable base from which to explore on foot or cycle** (good brakes essential) the deep valleys and hills of this unspoilt part of south west Dorset, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 4 miles to the north west of Bridport. From the side of the garden there is immediate access onto a footpath, taking visitors across the owners' farmland, grazed by their beef and dairy cattle, as part of a beautiful five mile circular walk.
Powerstock itself is an attractive and very ancient village mentioned in The Doomesday Book; standing on a mound above the village its imposing church dates from Norman times and there are two pubs, offering good, Dorset produced food, within walking distance of the cottages. A spectacular stretch of the World Heritage, "Jurassic" coastline is within easy driving distance, encompassing Lyme Regis (famous 600' Quay, rock pools & fossils), Charmouth (good sandy beach), West Bay (sea fishing off the pier and beach), and Abbotsbury, (Chesil Beach, swannery & subtropical gardens). The county town of Dorchester is about 10 miles while more locally Bridport provides for more immediate shopping needs.
Completely refurbished by their owner with new, well-equipped fitted kitchens and bathrooms, Bridge Cottage and Spring Cottage are ideal for a couple or a small family. They can also be booked jointly with a dining table for 6 to 8 in either cottage's living area.
