Peacefully situated along a ‘no through’ country lane, these two adjacent brick and flint cottages typical of this area, look out over an enclosed garden and across to farm and woodland rising beyond.
Situated right on the borders of three counties, Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire, they provide a perfect opportunity to explore the stunning countryside this area has to offer – walks from here will take you through woodland and up onto chalk downland affording far reaching views down to the fertile Chalke Valley where the River Ebble gently meanders its way to Salisbury. This area forms part of The Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which was originally King John’s hunting ground; it still contains large unspoilt tracts of land, which are rich in wildlife – fallow deer, birds of prey and rare species of wild flowers. The local area also offers a variety of outdoor activities from golf at nearby Rushmore Park, to flying lessons at Compton Abbas Airfield and there is a whole variety of visitor attractions within an hour’s drive – Stonehenge, Wilton House, Longleat, the historic cities of Salisbury and Bath and The New Forest National Park. To the south lies the World Heritage South Dorset coastline, Poole Harbour and sandy beaches at Studland Bay and Weymouth. A mile away, the village of Sixpenny Handley provides for local shopping needs and if you’re planning a special celebration meal there are several renowned “gastro” pubs within a few miles.
The two cottages have undergone extensive refurbishment and now provide spacious, light and very practical accommodation with every modern convenience including underfloor heating downstairs. Both cottages have south facing, lawned and fenced gardens at the front. The cottages adjoin one another and can be booked individually or by two families/groups wishing to holiday together.
Comments from previous visitors
"Just a quick note to say that we really enjoyed the cottage. The conversion from the old cottage has been very well done and the accommodation is very well furnished and equipped. The log burner was a really nice addition." Claire Pons, February 2011.
