Beneath Inkpen Beacon, beside a meandering country lane is Beacon Cottage, 200 years' old in parts and combining character with a high degree of comfort, including a well equipped fitted kitchen. Situated on a former smallholding still with a few animals, it makes an ideal base for walkers and those wishing to explore Southern England, Windsor, Winchester, Oxford, Salisbury, The Cotswolds and The New Forest all being within an hour's drive. Nearer home are Highclere (setting of Watership Down), Hungerford (many antique shops), Marlborough, Avebury Stone Circle and Kintbury, offering horse drawn narrow boat trips on the canal. London is about an hour by train from Kintbury or Newbury.

Beacon Cottage is tastefully decorated with plenty of interesting books and pictures.
